It can also be used to create a custom sound to identify an app on your phone, like a weather app or a sports app. To set up custom sound for an app, open that app's settings, then tap sounds.
If your iPhone has a lot of contacts, you might want to set a different ringtone or text tone for each of them. On an iPhone or iPad, it's a fairly simple process. On an Android phone, it's a bit more involved.
